I had intended to take a lot more pictures during the painting of this piece, but alas - I didn't. So, I will start with this first one I remembered to take. Here you can see I have blocked in some colors for the sand and ocean - and I have already begun pushing some clouds around in the sky. Notice the puddles in the sand are still just the toned canvas showing through.

In this photo you can see I have now put some 'water' into the puddle locations, as well as added in some wave splashing on the shoreline. I have also darkened the sand to make it appear to be more 'wet'.

Now you can see the subject of the painting finally make his appearance. Just a slight indication that there is a man standing along the water's edge taking in the sheer majesty of the ocean. Adding in the reflections in the puddles helps reinforce the illusion of water puddles in the sand.

And then here is the final product. My final steps were to adjust the color of the sand so that it 'plays' better off of the blue sky, as well as adjusting the sky/clouds closer to the horizon.
What do you think? My next walkthrough of my process I will be sure to include more of the earlier steps which include the canvas toning, under painting, and major blocking of colors.
Thanks for reading.
