I am announcing a new series of paintings.  They are going to be small 6"x6" paintings that will all come already framed in a classic black 'floating' frame.  I am starting with 6 landscape paintings inspired by the landscapes of Ireland and 6 still life paintings.  Once this initial run of 12 paintings is completed, I will continue on if there is enough interest.  Small paintings make great holiday gifts and look great when paired together.  

I look forward to hearing from people what they like and don't like.  Feedback I am looking for includes: Do you like the 6x6 size?  Does the loose style fit your 'eye'?  What about the offered frame?  What subject matter would you like to see?

I have been working on a large mural project for the past few weeks.  I was commissioned to paint 6 large wall murals for Holly Hill Hospital in Raleigh, NC.  The designs I submitted, and which won me the commission, were all serene landscapes and interesting vistas.  This project has not been easy for a variety of reasons - difficult wall surfaces, general size, time available to be on the wall, a sliced off thumb and my travel schedule to name a few.  

First of all, the walls are cinder block walls covered in oil based paint.  This is not the easiest surface to paint on by any stretch of the imagination.  The cinder block texture is rough and uneven and doesn't accept paint well at all.  Add in it being covered in a slick oil based paint and you have a recipe for a slow going mural.  I was able to work through this challenge by roughing up the oil based paint with my orbital sander.  Once I did this, the paint stuck to the wall much better.  

I think the one thing that slowed me down the most was slicing the tip of my thumb off a few weeks ago.  That put me way behind as I wasn't able to work on the project at all while my had was still an open wound.  

As you can see from the pictures on the right, I have four of the six murals completed at this point.  I will need probably two more sessions on the walls to complete this project.  Stay tuned for updates.
